Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened to Cyntoia Brown, a Black woman who was trafficked into sexual slavery as a teenager and killed her would-be rapist. Brown was imprisoned for half her life on charges of murder and robbery, a rotten testament to the anti-Blackness of our nation’s so-called “justice” system, and a perfect manifestation of the phenomenon you discuss. There are indeed many people who hesitate to support freedom if it does not take the form of non-violence, and that’s how we end up with awful verdicts like Ms Brown’s.
